We then head to Marker’s Mark Distillery, a member of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, in Loretto. This distillery, originally opened in 1889 as the Burkes Distillery, is on the National Registry of Historic Places and is designated as a National Historic Landmark. It was purchased in 1953 by T. William Samuels, a fourth generation distiller and Maker’s Mark bourbon was born. You will have about 2 hours for a tour, tasting, lunch (lunch at Maker’s is only Wed-Sat) at the historic and scenic location. You can even dip a bottle in the famous red wax in the gift shop if you like.
The last stop of the day will be in Danville at the Wilderness Trail Distillery which is on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® Craft Tour. With over 20 years of experience as fermentation experts working with over 150 distilleries around the world, the owners opened this craft distillery in 2003 and are producing award winning vodka, rum made with Kentucky molasses sorghum, rye whiskey and bourbon. After our visit, we will return to Harrodsburg, arriving in time for dinner around 4:45 p.m.
